Laptop Will Not Power On
The laptop will not respond or show any sign of powering up.
Faulty Power Adapter
Check to make sure that the power adapter is plugged in. If it is, make sure the light on the laptop is on. If the light is not on and the adapter is plugged in, the adapter is faulty. Consider purchasing a replacement adapter.
Faulty Battery
If the adapter is plugged in, connected to the laptop, and the light on the laptop is on but the laptop only powers up when the adapter is plugged in, the battery is faulty. Replace the battery with this guide here.
No Bootable Device
The laptop has a black screen and displays: No Bootable Device — insert boot disk and press any key
Faulty HDD
If device refuses to boot and keeps displaying the message, “No Bootable Device — insert boot disk and press any key” , your hard disk drive is probably broken and needs to be replaced. You can find a guide to replace your HDD here.
Battery Does Not Last Long
After a full charge, the battery looses its charge very quickly.
Faulty Battery
If the battery is being charged for a substantial amount of time and Windows tells you it is charged 100%, your battery is probably broken. After a certain amount of charges/discharges the battery becomes useless and only holds a charge for 30 minutes or less. If this is the case, the battery must be replaced. Wont boot from USB or CDROM
The laptop will not boot from a bootable USB or CDROM
Disable Secure Boot
If you are unable to boot from a bootable USB flash memory stick or CDROM, then secure boot is probably enabled. To disable secure boot shutdown the laptop and then press the power button and hold F2 until you enter the UEFI/BIOS. Once in the UEFI, use the arrow keys to maneuver to the Security tab. Once there, go down to Set Supervisor Password and set an easy password that you will remember. THIS PASSWORD WILL BE NEEDED TO ENTER THE UEFI IN THE FUTURE, so do not forget it. Next, go to the Boot tab. Once there, go down to Secure Boot and switch it from enabled to disabled. Go to the Exit tab and choose Exit Saving Changes.
Enable F12 Boot Menu
To enable the F12 boot menu, shutdown the laptop and then power on the laptop while holding F2. Enter password if necessary. Once in the UEFI, hit the right arrow key to get to the Main tab. Once there, go down to F12 Boot Menu and enable it. Go to the Exit tab and choose Exit Saving Changes. This will restart your computer. From now on, press and hold the F12 key during power on and it will load a page that will allow you to select a bootable USB or CDROM as well as your HDD that contains your OS.
Beeps at Boot with Black Screen
When powering on your laptop you hear a series of beeps with a black screen.
Faulty Memory/RAM
If your computer refuses to boot and you hear a series of beep codes (1-3-4-1 or 1-3-4-3 or 1-4-1-1. Example: 1-2-3-1 means 1 beep, pause, 2 beeps, pause, 3 beeps, pause, 1 beep) then there is something wrong with the laptop’s memory and it needs to be replaced.
