So why is the photoshop brush opacity 50% although it is set to 100%?
There are several reasons that can explain a decrease in the opacity of your work, let’s discover them together!
Opacity is 100% but Brush Flow is not 100%
It may be that in your brush settings, at the top of your screen, the brush has 100% opacity but the Flow is below 100%. Which means the flow of “paint” in your brush isn’t 100%, and so to use a metaphor, you’ve diluted it with water and its coverage level isn’t as optimal as with a brush loaded with paint at 100%. As you can see from the example below, the tree I started drawing on the left has 16% flow while the one on the right has 100% flow.
Check your brush settings
The other reason that could explain your brush’s opacity variation is in your brush presets. Click on the brush library (pictogram in the shape of a folder with a brush on it), then go to the Brush settings tab > Transfer. Check that the Variation of the opacity of the brush is indeed at 0%, as well as the flow.
Your layer opacity is not 100%
The other reason that may explain the transparency of your brush is that the opacity of your layer is not at 100%. To fix this, go to your layer and check that the layer opacity is set to 100%.
