What is the System Migration? – Definition
A system migration is the process of transferring business process IT resources to a newer hardware infrastructure or a different software platform for the purpose of keeping up with current technologies and/or to gain better business value. In all cases, the move is done toward a system perceived to be better than the current system and would, in the long run, give better value.
Understanding the System Migration
A system migration might involve physical migration of computing assets, like when older hardware can no longer provide the required level of performance and meet the business needs of the organization. Sometimes only data and applications need to be migrated to a new system or platform, which may reside on the same hardware infrastructure, but the reason behind it would still be the same: because the new system is perceived to be better than the old one.
